This is already my 12th season going strong with the Basecamp and it doesn't look like there will be an end in sight anytime soon. Time flies when you're doing something you love!
The summer season brought an incredible mix of travelers to our doors. I had the opportunity to spend some time away training as an Air Taxi Operator, but I knew the Basecamp was in great hands with our amazing crew.
I want to personally thank Gabriele, Rachel, Sofia, Palina, Angie, Jeff, and Jordan for their dedication and care during the busy summer months. Their passion for hospitality and genuine connection with guests is what makes this place so special.
This year we had record numbers of motorcycle enthusiasts—at one point we counted 14 motorcycles parked on the hostel grounds! We also hosted seasonal workers from various Alaska agencies who come to rest between field assignments, and YMCA camp groups who just completed 40-day backpacking expeditions in the Brooks Range.
The diversity of our guests—from all corners of the globe, with different goals and dreams—is what makes running this hostel so rewarding. Everyone leaves with stories, friendships, and memories of the Alaskan wilderness.
As summer comes to a close, I want to bid farewell to our guests with both happiness and a touch of sadness. Thank you for being part of the Basecamp family this season.
